Creative WoJM:
Art from Academy Students

Introduction Fitz Feature Artistic Academy
Introduction
Welcome to the Creative WoJM column, where each Monday you will see three artworks from three students from the Academy, in addition to one artwork from the writer, Fitz Vacker! However, this article does not have any student art. Today, Fitz is here to talk about concept paintings.
A concept painting is a painting meant to convey an idea or emotion. This is similar to how music usually conveys a feeling, or a poem tells of an experience or emotion. Concept paintings are all this, just put into images.
You might wonder how to make a concept painting or artwork. Once you try it out a bit, it can become easier and more fun as you get along and learn how to express yourself through art. To start a concept painting, you have to come up with an idea, or concept, that is important to you. This could be a simple concept, like love. It could also be a message to act towards or against something, like making the world a better place or stopping war. Next, you decide on your symbolism. A symbol is something that represents something else, like a heart for love, or a moon for serenity. Colors also symbolize things! Dark colors can give a spooky or macabre feeling if used in certain ways, and light colors give a peaceful sort of feeling. Once you have all that, decide how you want to put it all on your artwork, and get to making the art!

The concept painting below is “Perspectives” by Fitz Vacker, and is meant to show how a positive or negative outlook can change the world around you.
Perspectives
“Perspectives” was painted with watercolors on a canvas, and it is a message from the artist to the world: Your perspective changes your life and your world. The background is similar to a sunset painting, and represents the color and beauty of the world. The world has evil in it, but there is always good and light in the darkness. The two eyes represent a person’s view of the world, or their perspective. The left eye sees only the evil and darkness, and is not only consumed by the darkness, but spreads the evil to it’s surroundings. Some people are convinced that the evil in the world will never leave, and so there is no reason to even try. This taints the world’s beauty, as shown by the black bleeding into the bright colors and covering them up.
The right eye sees and focuses instead on the good in the world. It is not clouded by darkness and evil, and is instead filled with joy and color. This positive perspective leads to a happier life. Fitz Vacker painted “Perspectives” because he has experienced both sides of the coin, and seen the perspectives of both eyes. He used to focus on the bad, the evil in life and it consumed many weeks of his life. With the help of his friends, he managed to start looking at the good and seeing the beauty of life.
Want your art here?
Want your artwork presented in this column, and possibly get a reward? If so, send Fitz “Chaos” Vacker a letter with the subject “Firstname Lastname – Artwork Interview” and include a cropped image of your artwork so that only the artwork is showing, and be prepared to answer questions about how you made the artwork, the tools you used, and the message if it’s a concept artwork. If your artwork is featured in this article for "Best Composition", it means you are the one user per week to win a prize! Two other artworks will be featured, but they will not get a prize. The three categories are: Most Detailed, Most Creative, and Best Composition. If you have any questions, feel free to send a letter to Fitz. Please send the artworks by Wednesday so he can get them in on time.
