Today we’ll interview someone who you did not expect. Last time I said we would talk to one of the Plot beans, sadly plot beans have been super busy and so we went to one of the amazing Scouts to fill in for today's Student Spotlight! This person has been around for a while, I even wonder if she’s the one with the highest level on site right now? So, get ready for an amazing interview with none other than: Skylar Sin!

Our Interview

Beau: Hi there Skylar! Such an honor to have you here with me for today’s interview for Student Spotlight. I hope you didn’t mind me springing this on you last minute?
Skylar: I mean, not like I had anything urgent going on anyway. So yeah, I guess I don’t mind.

Beau:So, let’s start off with something easy shall we? How on earth did you get to be level 130?
Skylar: Well, I had a few different factors that got me boosted so high. Mostly though, it had to do with consistent activity levels. Firstly, as a member of the scouts team, I have to send plenty of letters every day reminding users about their profile texts and backstories, which racked up quite a lot of experience that got me to level up. No doubt I’ve sent at least 1000 letters at this point. Apart from that, I cuddle quite a lot of pets, and I’m rather active on chat, which boosts my experience quickly.

Beau: Well then, you’ve heard it here folks, now you know how to level up quickly without having to spam someone’s letters. Skylar, next question: What does being a Scout really mean? Can you tell us what you do exactly?
Skylar: Scout is actually a really challenging job. We’re in charge of everything profile related here, although we mainly focus on profile texts and backstories — alternatively known as scrolls of history. If a student doesn’t have their profile text and backstory up within two weeks of joining, or if someone’s writing breaks rules, we’re the ones who issue them reminders. I’m told to not scare off the students and to look less scary, but oh well. Moreover, if anybody needs help with their profile texts and backstories, we’re always the ones to come to.

Beau: Nice, sounds like you stay busy with all the new students popping up left, right and center. Do you have a system to make sure you don’t overlook anything? Or do you just check a Scroll of History and report back?
Skylar: We have a pretty organized way of working, actually. Which is a bit sad, because I love chaos, but I have to admit it’s very effective. We have a spreadsheet in which we record names, so we don’t accidentally overlap and have two people send the same person a reminder. We have to write down our names, the student’s name, date checked, what’s wrong with the profile text/backstory, etc. Not gonna lie, I like the system a lot.

Beau: Thorsten is your boss right? He seems like a nice guy, maybe needs some coffee occasionally and therapy for his unicorn addiction (Naomi told me to say this). How is Thorsten as a boss?
Skylar: He’s pretty lenient and he puts a lot of trust in us. He doesn’t micromanage, which is great, and he’s a pretty chill guy. Mostly. He cares about us scouts a ton and he’s always there to lend a helping hand to whoever needs help — not that I need help. I’m perfectly capable and independent, thanks. Also, he’s an amazing victim to prank… I legoed his office once.

Beau: How do you like working with your team members? Is scout more of a solo job or do you also work together a lot?
Skylar: It’s more of a solo job, since each of us scouts have a designated winglet to go through — mine is Copper — so we don’t get to work together a ton like, say, plot does. But when we do get to work together, usually to brainstorm together and make suggestions, it’s always fun because of the combined brainpower.

Beau: If you could have any other student job aside from Scout, which one would it be and why?
Skylar: Overseer. Can you imagine the chaos — oh, right, sorry. Student job. Probably hall monitor, I suppose? I get to wreak havoc and chaos there, too. But mostly because I think scout and hall monitor, although being vastly different, have similarities as well. It’s a set routine where you have to check over users and ensure nobody’s breaking rules, so I think I’d be okay adapting to hall monitor.

Beau: We’re almost there, bare with me for just a moment. What does a day in the life of Skylar Sin look like?
Skylar: I wake up, have breakfast in the Great Hall, then feed my 100 frogs. I visit everyone’s pets and cuddle them to make sure they’re happy and satisfied. After breakfast time, I skip all my classes and make sure to piss off all the preceptors until afternoon. Then when we’ve finished with dinner, I start work — by work, I mean my scout work, sending reminders and checking on everyone’s profiles, all that jazz. Then… I sleep. Or sneak out after curfew and try not to get caught by hall monitors. Breaking curfew is so much fun, don’t you agree?

Well then, I guess most of us already knew that Skylar tries to let chaos reign as much as she can! This girl knows how to break rules but also how to do her job properly! So if you don't have your Profile Text and Scroll of History up yet, I suggest you start writing those before the Scouts come knocking on your door! Next time we'll see if we can get one of the Plot beans to join us and otherwise we'll grab one of the Scribes by the scruff! Until next time!
