Hello and welcome to a new series called ‘Into the Scrolls’. This bi-weekly blog will give us an inside view of the world of Scrolls. The library can be a large place and finding what we need might be a bit hard so this blog post will not only help encourage users to use this wonderful resource but will let you know what Scroll details so you can find that perfect read!
I thought it would only be fitting for us to start off with one of the guides from within the library. This week I’ll be talking about the Scroll ‘Guide to Text-Based RPG’. This Scroll is a great resource for new and old users as it is a detailed guide on how to do text-based RPG. You might be wondering, how is this different from the site rules and guidelines? That is a simple question to answer.
This Scroll provides detailed examples and definitions of what role-playing is, the type of role-players, how to create topic starters, and how to reply to topic starters. If you’re new and aren’t sure where to start but want to jump into a topic then this is a great Scroll from you as the writer, Naomi, will give you written out examples to help create longer, more detailed role-play/topic responses.
Not only can this scroll help you learn about responding to topics but it can also help you with some of the classes around Jade Mountain Academy! If you’ve done some of the classes and have noticed that as a format you are required or asked to do it in an RPG format, this might be a little confusing or daunting. This scroll will also teach you or give you pointers on how to use things from topics into your assignments to make them more detailed.
Here is my favorite quote from the scroll: RPG stands for "Role-Playing Game", meaning basically that you're 'playing' a role on the internet.
