Hello dragons of Pyrrhia and Pantala! Today we will be discussing SandWings and their history! Without further ado, let’s hop right in!
SandWings typically have very muted shades of beige, yellow, and sometimes even a very light brown. Purebreds aren’t often known to have brighter colors, but genetic mutations such as albinism and melanism are not unheard of, however they’re rare just like most other genetic conditions. Apart from scale color, they’re known to have a sail going from the top of their head down their spine and gradually getting smaller to the tip of their tail. This can be in a number of colors but usually it’s slightly darker than their typical scale color. They also have smaller, straight horns and a barb on their tail with venom.
TSandWings have normal dragon claws (unlike the uniquely serrated IceWing talons to grip ice or the slightly more curved RainWing ones to cling to trees). They can also breathe fire under any conditions. Additionally, their scales give off warmth and they can blend into the sand with their pale scales. Due to their desert-related adaptations, they can last quite a while without food and water & have great sense of smell and hearing. One of the SandWing’s most heard-of ability, however, is the barb on their tail. It doesn’t develop venom until their about three, which bodes well for clumsy dragonets. However they’re taught even before they get venom to be careful, ergo, most SandWings keep their barb curled into their tail to ensure no one gets scratched on it.
The Great War began when Queen Oasis was killed by a few scavengers, and was left with three heirs to the throne- Blister, Blaze, and Burn. A situation like this was essentially unheard of, as in a typical situation a Queen would be challenged by an heir and one of them was killed. If the challenger won, they became queen- simple. But this certainly complicated things at the time.
Blaze was known for being ditzy and clueless, in simple terms. She wound up allied with some SandWings and all IceWings, but without a price. This was all with a promise to the late Queen Glacier that Blaze would give all the border land to her if she won.
Burn was the most ruthless of them all, and this tended to get the best of her and take over the logical parts of her thinking. However, throughout the war she had very strong fighters, due to the fact that she was allied with both the SkyWings and MudWings- two very powerful tribes in a physical and numerical sense. She was also responsible for Dunes wing and leg injury.
Finally, Blister. She was the smartest of them all and played her cards carefully throughout the war. She was briefly allied with the MudWings, however after Tempest’s assasination, they ended the alliance and left for Burn. However Blister’s long-standing alliance stuck- the SeaWings. It’s speculated that Coral was fully aware of Blisters plans for what to do with the Dragonets, however no one knows for sure.
Regardless, Blaze initially thought she had won her position on the throne after Blister was killed by a dragon bite viper and Burn was killed by the Eye of Onyx, but ultimately Thorn was able to safely place it around her neck, declaring her the new Queen of the SandWings.
