Moonwatcher, aka "Moon", is a female NightWing dragonet and the main character of Moon Rising. Raised in the Rainforest Kingdom by Secretkeeper, she has unique prophetic and mind-reading abilities. She attended Jade Mountain Academy as part of the Jade Winglet.
She is small, with cool, smooth, shiny, purplish-black scales that have hints of dark blue and green scattered in them. She has one glittering silver teardrop scale on the outside corner of her dark green eyes. She has strong muscles, and black wings, and often has small wrinkles crossing her forehead, as though she has a endless headache. Moonwatcher is one of many characters who experiences a mix of emotions. She is nervous and anxious, but at the same time kind, firm, brave, and friendly. Moonwatcher is critical of herself and stammers when communicating sometimes. Her mindreading and foresight abilities further complicate her communications with others. She suffers from social anxiety and is easily overwhelmed by loud and chaotic situations. Moonwatcher is concerned about others' opinions of her and struggles to open up to her friends, even though she always tries to see the good in dragons. Eventually, she learns to adapt to her powers and use them for the benefit of other dragons, although she still finds it challenging to disclose her mind-reading abilities.
Qibli would love to spend every day with Moon. He notices things about her and often thinks about what she would do when he needs motivation. Qibli is determined to make Moon like him and when he's with her everything He is always concerned for her safety and feels incomplete when he's away from her. Qibli once thought Moon as his partner in his future and wants to make her smile. He feels happier around Moon than before and thinks being around her is like being on a team with someone who works with him and makes his own brain better. To Moon, Qibli is one of the closest relationships, and that is the same towards Qibli.
Moonwatcher is one of Winter's closest friends, and Winter is in love with her. Moonwatcher once stated that she would never be Winter's enemy, no matter what he said. She wanted Winter to come with her to solve the Jade Mountain Prophecy. Since Winter began wearing skyfire, it became a lot easier for Moonwatcher to talk to him. Winter sometimes jokes with Moonwatcher, but he feels a twisting feeling in his chest when he thinks about her, and hearing her say his name was like a spell that runs warmth through his bones. Winter had never met anyone who seemed to be as interested in scavengers as he was until he met Moonwatcher. His expression while looking at her once was soulful and full of longing. He quite likes her and misses her after moving to Sanctuary.
Winter once thought that Narwhal and Tundra saw Winter as nothing more than a gray lump of ice, Moonwatcher saw beautiful mountain peaks. She thinks of him as one of the best dragons in Pyrrhia. Moonwatcher finds Winter's mind to be very confusing, but she regards Winter as someone who can think bigger than the things that affect him personally. She trusts Winter and thinks that he is honorable and brave. Winter often cannot tell when Moon is joking.
Winter acts harshly and explosively angry, causing Moonwatcher to flare up at him sometimes. Qibli wondered how he could yell at Moonwatcher the way he did if he truly loved her. When Moonwatcher chose Qibli over Winter, he was heartbroken and wondered how long it would take for his heart to heal.
