The Sky Kingdom

The Sky Kingdom is home to the SkyWing tribe. But where is it? What’s it like there? And what makes the Sky Kingdom so extraordinary? Find out in this week’s blog!

Where is the Sky Kingdom?

The Sky Kingdom is located in the center of the Pyrrhian continent, between the desert and swamps. It stretches from the northernmost parts of Pyrrhia’s wing down to the lower parts of the continent. While exact borders are hard to come by, it is safe to assume that the Sky Kingdom’s borders cover the whole Claws of the Clouds Mountains. The landscape is mountainous and rocky, with rivers and forests common in the valleys. The most notable mountain is Jade Mountain, the largest mountain in the Sky Kingdom and Pyrrhia as a whole. Jade Mountain is, of course, home to Jade Mountain Academy, the first multi-tribe school.

The SkyWing Palace

The SkyWing Palace can be found in the northern Sky Kingdom, near the start of the Diamond Spray River. It is made of stone and is partially built into the mountainous ground below. It has many towers and spires, some of which are used as lookout posts to watch for invading armies. The most memorable part of the palace is the arena. The arena is made of rock and has a sandy floor where the fights take place. Above and around the arena were the prison towers. The prisoner towers were used to house prisoners (as the name would suggest); prisoners were tied with metal bands that could not be destroyed by fire. The arena was primarily used for gladiator battles but was also used for trials and parades. When Queen Ruby ascended to the throne, she turned the arena into a hospital for wounded soldiers.

The SkyWing throne room is located in the palace. It has stone walls inlaid with gold and carved cloud shapes. The wall facing the throne is entirely open, allowing dragons to enter and exit into the Sky Kingdom freely. The throne itself is large and carved to look like a column of clouds; next to it is a minor visitor’s throne made of rock.

The Sky Kingdom’s Story Significance

The Sky Kingdom is the primary setting of The Dragonet Prophecy; the Dragonets of Destiny were confined to a cave under a mountain in the Sky Kingdom. When they escaped, they were taken as prisoners by Queen Scarlet and had to flee the Sky Palace. Moon Rising takes place at Jade Mountain Academy, which is located in the southern Sky Kingdom. The Jade Winglet (or at least half of Jade Winglet) looks for Queen Scarlet in the Sky Kingdom in Winter Turning. In Escaping Peril, Peril and Turtle fly through the Sky Kingdom to get to Possibility, and Peril goes with Queen Scarlet and Chameleon to the palace.

What Do You Think?

  • Would you want to live in the Sky Kingdom?
  • Are too many books set in the Sky Kingdom?
  • Do you have any strong opinions on the SkyWing tribe?
Yours Truly,
