What are the Wings of Fire Tribes? Where do they live, and what are they like? Find out in this week’s blog!
Dragons from the IceWing tribe generally have either white, blue or sometimes even purple. They live in the Ice Kingdom, which mainly consists of frozen tundra. They have frostbreath. Large parts of IceWing daily life revolved around or were influenced by the ranking system. Ranks were divided into seven circles: dragons with higher ranks were more respected and held to a higher standard than dragons with lower ranks. Dragonets and adult dragons were separated into different ranking categories. Queen Snowfall abolished this system in 5012 A.S.
MudWings live in the swamps of eastern Pyrrhia. Their scales are usually earthy colors like brown, amber, or gold. They are stereotyped as being strong and burly but not very smart. They can breathe fire under most conditions and sometimes have scales that are resistant to fire. MudWings have armored scales and flat foreheads. They live in close-knit sibling groups; the oldest sibling is called the bigwings, and they are the leader of their troop.
The NightWing tribe currently lives in the rainforest with the RainWings under the rule of Queen Glory. Before this, they lived on a volcanic island far north of Pyrrhia, and before that, they lived in a city on the Talon Peninsula. Their scales are primarily black, but they can have hints of blue, purple, or green from time to time. The undersides of their wings are speckled with small silver scales that resemble stars in the night sky. NightWing dragonets can read minds, see the future, or both when their eggs hatch under full moons. These powers are denoted by silver teardrop-shaped scales beside their eyes.
RainWings, like the NightWings, live in the rainforest. Their scales have the unique ability to change color, either to express emotions, blend into their surroundings, or just look pretty. They can shoot venom that disintegrates organic material from their fangs. RainWing dragonets don’t know their parents; instead, they are raised by the whole tribe.
The Kingdom of Sand, where most SandWings reside, is located in western Pyrrhia. Their scales range from pale yellow to brown or gold, with pure black eyes. Some SandWings have black diamond patterns on their scales. A defining trait of the SandWing tribe is their tail barb. On the end of their tail, SandWings have a venomous barb that can poison any living thing and has the potency to kill a full-grown dragon. The SandWing royal family was recently responsible for starting the War of SandWing Succession when scavengers killed Queen Oasis, and her three heirs fought to obtain the throne.
SeaWings live in the ocean to the east of the Pyrrhian continent. Their tribe has blue or green scales, webbed talons, and gills on their neck. They also have phosphorescent scales along their snout, neck, tail, and wings that glow in the dark. They have their own language called Aquatic, which utilizes the SeaWings’ glowing scales to communicate. The SeaWings had two hidden palaces: the above-ground Summer Palace and the underwater Deep Palace. The Summer Palace was destroyed during the War of SandWing Succession.
SkyWings live in the mountainous Sky Kingdom. They are excellent flyers and have larger wings than any other tribe. Their scales are typically red or orange and sometimes yellow. They tend to be bad-tempered. While uncommon, some SkyWings possess firescales, a condition where their scales are incredibly hot and are immune to fire and IceWing frostbreath. Historically, these dragons were thrown from a cliff before they hatched.
The descendants of the ancient NightWing Clearsight, HiveWings, are usually shades of yellow, orange, or red, with patterns of black scales signifying their NightWing heritage. Unlike the dragons from Pyrrhia, HiveWings have four wings. They have many abilities, including stingers in their wrists, venomous claws, paralyzing toxins, or tail barbs similar to SandWings. Different dragons have different gifts, and some don’t have any. The HiveWing queen, Wasp, manipulated the SilkWing queen to give her tribe to the HiveWings and tried to wipe out the LeafWing tribe.
SilkWings were once enslaved by the HiveWings; they now reside in the LeafSilk Kingdom. Their scales can be nearly any color, excluding black. Like HiveWings, SilkWings have four wings; however, they don’t grow until their metamorphosis occurs when they are six years old. They can spin silk from their wrists and create beautiful weavings with said silk. Their silk was also used to make treestuff, which was used to construct the Hives. Some SilkWings’ silk is hot and glows like fire; this is called flamesilk.
The LeafWings used to reside in Pantala’s vast forests before the HiveWings destroyed them in the Tree Wars. The remnants of the LeafWing tribe then moved to the Poison Jungle, where they stayed undetected until the events of the third arc. They now live with the SilkWings in the LeafSilk Kingdom. They have green and brown scales and two wings that resemble leaves. Some LeafWings can control plants with an ability called leafspeak.
