Queen Thorn

In today’s article, we will look at the current queen of the SandWings: Queen Thorn. Spoilers for The Brightest Night and Darkness of Dragons!

Who is Queen Thorn?

Queen Thorn is a pale-yellow female SandWing. She was once the leader of the Outlaws until she became queen after the War of SandWing Succession. Most SandWings are glad that she is queen, regardless of the princess they supported during the war. Thorn is brilliantly minded and direct but also shows kindness and empathy occasionally. She wears a necklace with a moonstone in it around her neck. Once she became queen, she started wearing the Eye of Onyx around her neck.

Story Significance

We first met Thorn in The Brightest Night after Sunny followed three NightWings to the Scorpion Den. The NightWings attempted to sell Thorn information about the Dragonets of Destiny, but Thorn wanted to know about two dragons: Stonemover and Morrowseer. They told her Morrowseer was dead, which made Thorn very mad. After that, we learned that Sunny was Queen Thorn’s long-lost daughter and that Thorn had been looking for her for years. Before they get to spend too much time together, Sunny is kidnapped and taken to Burn’s stronghold. Luckily, Thorn and her Outclaws attack the fortress and help Sunny escape. The Dragonets of Destiny and Eye of Onyx later pick Thorn to be the next SandWing Queen.

In Darkness of Dragons, Thorn helps Qibli make and distribute enchanted earrings for all the IceWings to protect them from a magic plague. Later, dragons from the Scorpion Den attack the SandWing stronghold and try to take the throne from Queen Thorn. Onyx challenged Thorn, and she was prepared to fight. Their battle was postponed, however, when a sandstorm was magically summoned, and everyone was forced to take cover.

Queen Thorn's Relationships

Sunny

As Sunny was Thorn’s daughter, she loved her very much. She took over the Scorpion Den and created the Outclaws to find her. She also was willing to attack a fortified stronghold to save Sunny. Sunny also thinks Thorn is a good queen.

Qibli

Queen Thorn took Qibli under her wing when he was a dragonet, and he is very loyal to her. They trust each other; Thorn wants to keep Qibli protected and safe. While Thorn is Qibli’s leader, both in the Outclaws and as the queen, they are friends, too.

Stonemover

Stonemover was a NightWing animus that Thorn fell in love with long ago, although their relationship was a secret. He was Sunny’s father. Stonemover gifted Queen Thorn her moonstone necklace. He slowly changed and became colder after using his magic too much. He eventually disappeared, and Thorn spent a long time looking for him. She thought that he had been captured, but in reality, he had hidden in a cave under Jade Mountain.

Six-Claws

Six-Claws was an Outclaw and was very loyal to Thorn. He was one of the few dragons Thorn trusted to know about her relationship with Stonemover. Thorn appointed Six-Claws as one of her top generals when she became Queen.
