Is Moonbli Canon?

Moon and Qibli first meet in Moon Rising when Qibli helps break up a fight between Moon and Winter. Later, after finding out about her mind-reading powers, Qibli still decides to help Moon and be with her, despite her mind-reading, which she perceives as a curse. Qibli cares about Moon’s safety and likes to make her laugh. Moon looks to Qibli for comfort, and they sleep side-by-side when they travel to Pantala. At the end of Darkness of Dragons, Moon asks if they could try being together, and Qibli says yes. Qibli feels safe around Moon, and he likes working with her. I think that this is enough information to prove that Moonbli is, in fact, a cannon ship.

Winter

While Moon and Qibli like each other, there is another Wings of Fire character who likes Moon, Winter. Moon meets Winter at about the same time she meets Qibli. Their first interaction is not very friendly. Moon grabs Winter’s scavenger because she doesn’t want it to be eaten. Winter is furious and threatens her to give it back; with the help of Qibli and Sunny, the conflict is resolved, and as it turns out, nobody wants to eat Winter’s scavenger. It was all a big misunderstanding.
Despite this unpleasant first encounter, Winter eventually begins to develop feelings for Moon. He has more of an internal struggle, though, as he has been trained to hate NightWings, which Moon is. Moon also likes Winter; she thinks his mind is interesting and that he is one of the best dragons in Pyrrhia. Winter sometimes yells at Moon when he’s angry and disagrees with her on many subjects. Qibli thinks that Winter would be better for Moon, but she wants to be with Qibli.

Moonbli or Winterwatcher?

Some people ship Moonbli (Moon and Qibli), and others ship Winterwatcher (Winter and Moon) (and then there are the Qinter shippers, but that’s for a different article). We’ve already established that Moonbli appears to be the canon ship, but should it be? As previously established, Qibli and Moon have a much more healthy relationship compared to Moon and Winter. However, it could be said that being with Moon is best for Winter. Because of Moon, Winter was able to end his hatred for NightWings and realize that they were not the inferior and nefarious tribe he once thought they were. Of course, Qibli would be much better for Moon. He gets her laugh and makes her a better version of herself. He wants to help and see different perspectives where Winter disagrees and argues with her. I suppose it’s mostly up to you whether you want the best choice for Moon or for Winter.
