WoJM Blog: Wren ~~ Brought to you by the Transmissions Team

Dragonslayer

Wren grew up in a town called Talisman, ruled by a cult called the Dragonmancers, who sacrificed people to the dragons in order to keep them from attacking the town. When Wren was a little girl, she was very curious, and her curiosity got her in trouble with the Dragonmancers. She was tied up outside of town and left to be eaten by dragons. She managed to escape and lived on her own. She stumbled upon a small SkyWing dragonet who had been abandoned and took him under her wing. They traveled the continent and learned each other’s languages. She named him Sky. During their travels, they came upon the dragon city Possibility, where Sky was kidnapped by SandWings and taken to Burn’s stronghold. Wren corners and talks to Deathbringer and convinces him to take her to rescue Sky. He complies, and Wren, with the help of Rose, another human who lives with dragons, and some of the SandWings that live in the palace, is able to rescue Sky and return to Talisman to expose the lies of the Dragonmancers.

The Lost Continent

We meet Wren again in Book 14: The Dangerous Gift. In the dragon town of Sanctuary, Winter has an enclosure where he is keeping a human named Daffodil, and Wren helps her escape. They are confronted by the IceWing queen, Snowfall, and Wren talks to her, surprising the dragon. She introduces Sky, and Snowfall introduces Wren to the other dragons. The dragons are planning to go across the sea to Pantala to save the dragons there. Snowfall has a vision about scavengers, so the group decides to bring Wren and Sky along to translate and represent humans and SkyWings. When they got to Pantala, they met a scavenger named Axolotl, who Wren befriended. Axolotl was able to lead Wren and the dragons to the abyss and the human village nearby. Wren made contact with some of the humans that lived underground and was able to explain things to them. When Dusky, a SilkWing dragonet who the group was taking care of, Wren was protective of him and helped try to get him back and was the first one there when he was finally rescued.

Wren and Sky

Sky was the twin brother of Peril, a dragon with firescales. When their mother tried to escape with them, Queen Scarlet caught her and told her that if she killed one of her dragonets, Scarlet would forgive her for breaking the law. Sky was thrown in a river, where Wren found him and was able to rescue him. Wren was like a mother to Sky, and after a few months, they were able to talk to each other and eventually developed a hybrid dragon-human language that they use to communicate to each other. Sky’s innocent curiosity and sweetness are a nice contrast to Wren’s fierce temper and bold personality.
