Hello, Academians!

It’s Roman here, bringing to you another little bundle of knowledge on Pyrrhia and Pantala’s history. Today, we’ll be learning about Glory’s competition for the throne.

The RainWings have a way to challenge the current queen for the throne that doesn’t involve any bloodshed. The queen and her challenger take part in a competition that the old queen comes up with. If she wins, she keeps the throne, but if the challenger wins, she gets to rule.

After returning from the NightWing island, where she’d been captive, Glory asked for the RainWing queen, Magnificent’s help to save the RainWings who they had had to leave behind, in the hands of the NightWings. When she refused, Glory challenged her to the throne. After training for a day, the dragonet and the queens met in the Arboretum for the challenge, with many RainWing spectators there to watch the event. Glory chose her team, consisting of Jambu, Tamarin, Mangrove, Kinkajou and herself. They competed against the five queens, Exquisite, Fruit Bat, Dazzling, Grandeur and Magnificent.

In the first round, Jambu and Exquisite competed in a tree gliding race, but with the help of her sloths, Exquisite got ahead and won a point for Magnificent’s team. The second round was a flower finding hunt, in which Tamarin, a blind dragon beat Fruit Bat using her good sense of smell. Glory and Magnificent competed in the next round, a camouflage contest. Glory lost the round because of her pet sloth, Silver. The following round was a fruit scavenger hunt, in which Dazzling cheated, but still lost against Mangrove. At this point, the teams were tied with two points each. The last, fateful round was a venom shooting contest between Grandeur and little Kinkajou. It didn’t seem like there was much hope for Glory and her team. Indeed, Grandeur won the first part of the contest, shooting her venom to a much farther distance than Kinkajou. But in the second half, her venom injured the little dragonet’s wing, and in a frantic attempt to help her friend, Glory did a venom test with Grandeur. It turned out that they were related, and after they had saved Kinkajou, Grandeur, who had been the original and rightful queen declared Glory as her successor, even though the queens’ team had lost the competition.
