Not much is known about Thorn’s life as a young dragonet. The earliest information about her is that she met the NightWing animus Stonemover while he was working on the NightWings tunnels in her kingdom, and fell in love with him. Only a few knew of their happy relationship. Unfortunately, they split after Stonemover’s disappearance, just before she was to tell him about their dragonet on the way. She hid her egg in the sands of the desert, but Dune stole it after realizing that it would hatch on the brightest night. The dragonet would come to be known as Sunny, one of the five dragonets of destiny. Thorn formed the Outclaws in hope of finding out about Stonemover’s or her dragonet’s whereabouts.

Thorn and Sunny were reunited several years later, when the dragonet visited the Scorpion Den. There, Thorn informed her of their blood relation. Her daughter was kidnapped soon afterwards by Addax and other former soldiers of the SandWings army. Thorn lead the Outclaws to Burn’s stronghold, where Sunny was held, to rescue her. Though some complications arose, they managed to escape safely.

She was present on the day that the SandWing princesses and the dragon tribes met at Burn’s stronghold, helping save the dragonet Clay, and in digging up former queen Oasis’ remains. The skeleton held the Eye of Onyx, an animus-touched item that can choose the dragon best fit to be queen, in its jaws. Instead of choosing between the SandWing princesses, Sunny gives the Eye to Thorn, making her the new queen of SandWings.
