By now everyone knew the Graduate staff, the adults rather. Those who make sure that every scavenger here at the Academy behaved, felt welcome, did their homework and so forth. They’re not the only ones who make the Academy however. Where would the Academy be without the amazing Hall-monitors who make sure everyone stays in their dorms after curfew? Who monitors if people behave in the hallways of the Academy? Or maybe the Transmission team that makes sure the word about the Academy and it’s inhabitants gets spread ? Maybe you’re more curious about the Scouts, who help people settle in, get their stories straight. Or would you rather know more about the Scribes? Those that go around the Academy looking for some juicy gossip, or keep their ear to the ground for groundbreaking news ? Maybe you prefer to get to know the protege more, they spend their time grading your homework after all. They’re the ones who get you the necessary points to bring your Winglet to the top. Of course, where would we be without the artists, those who draw the amazing art you can admire here at the Academy. Or perhaps you’d rather spend your time at the parties that the Plot team organise or try to fix the havoc they’ve wrecked by setting fire to several parts of the Academy. Today however, we’re focussing on one of the Scroll Managers at the Jade Mountain Academy. This person has been a scroll manager for a while now and knows the ropes, she was willing to give us a little insight in her daily routine and of course her work as Scroll manager. I’m talking of course, about none other than
Lila Everfall.
Our Interview
Beau: Good to see you Lila, thank you for taking the time out of your busy schedule to sit down and answer some questions.
Lila: Great to see you too Beau! I’m honored that you chose to interview me today!
Beau: So everyone here knows you’re a Scroll Manager, but what exactly does that mean and more importantly, what does the job mean to you personally?
Lila: Honestly, the Scroll Manager job means that we write books, to put it simply, but it means a lot more to me. I get to help provide reliable information for other students, and writing is simply a passion of mine that I like to do. Personally, I love helping others- who doesn’t?
Beau: Well then, seems like it’s a pretty big job. How do you manage your time to make sure you meet your deadlines?
Lila: I always put aside time at night to work on my current scroll, just so that I can meet the demanding deadline that always looms ahead of me. It’s quite fun though, but I do tend to work better under stress… which can sometimes lead to me pulling all-nighters to write books. Great work, but not great for my body.
Beau: Can you walk us through your process of writing? What do you start with and how do you proceed from there?
Lila: So before I start writing, I always take what I know before actually doing research and jot down short phrases about it. It helps me get down what I already know and what I need to do more research on. Which of course, leads me to the research phase, where I sort of diligently flip through books and read through articles so I can get more information. Because after all, more information means more reliability. After that, I start making guidelines of how I want my scroll to be organized- this consists of me grouping information together so it can go under one pretty chapter and not just a blob of information on the scroll. Then, I actually start writing. This is probably the longest process because this is where the bulk of my work goes into. All of this leads to the final product that rests in the Library.
Beau: Sounds amazing, I’ve always wondered how you guys do it… but if you’re stuck or need help? Is your boss the type of person who would help you or let you figure it out on your own?
Lila: Most of the time my boss is the type of person who would help us because she’s amazing like that! She’s always there to help guide us and help us along the way if we need it, which is always great especially when we’re in a writing block. Naomi is like that… rocket who helps ya and guides you.
Beau: Sounds like a pretty amazing person if you ask me. How’s Naomi in general as a boss?
Lila: SHE IS AMAZING. Naomi is such a marvelous boss and I swear, I couldn’t be any luckier to have a boss like her. She’s so understanding and so kind- I could go on and on. Love you so much Naomi!
Beau: We’re almost done, bare with me for just another moment, can you walk us through a day in the life of Lila Everfall?
Lila: Be warned, it’s chaotic. I wake up fairly early, and get coffee because I like coffee. No breakfast unless I’m unusually hungry that day, then it’s usually just fruit. I go to classes like a good student (and you should too) and then eat lunch. Usually by then, I either go to classes or I just take some time and do some Scroll Manager work because I dislike being bored. See, it doesn’t seem chaotic when I say it… but you forgot about my turtle ducks and otters. Occasionally I’ll bring them along with me but I have too many to bring at a time so that wouldn’t be good. Just imagine a stampede of animals.
Thank you so much for your time Lila and for the amazing answers. I’m sure your fellow scavengers feel like they know you a little bit better now and have a bit more insight in your job, which seems like a pretty important one. But not to worry, Lila is not the only Pumpkin we plan on interviewing. However the others will have to wait. I hope you all enjoyed this little interview and look forward to next time where we’ll see if one of the Hall-Monitors is willing to say a few words.
